Baseball Concepts’ camps empower the kids and our community in the region by building quality character values in our youth players through the game of baseball. Our goal is to teach very important life and character building lessons through our professional baseball camp instruction. Our instruction will focus on providing cutting edge baseball skills in drills for players at all ability levels in a fun way! Our instructors are experienced teachers of the game and have a passion for kids.

The camps will be held at SportsQuest baseball center in Zeeland, MI (map to SportsQuest).

Baseball Concepts Staff:


Anthony Santiago – Davenport University and Grand Rapids CC from San Juan, Puerto Rico. In 2008 he won the Puerto Rico Baseball Amateur League Championship and had a chance to represent Puerto Rico in the World Series in Texas. He spent two years at Grand Rapids Community College, reaching the NJCCA World Series in 2012. He finished with two seasons at Davenport University, reaching the NAIA World Series in 2015. Anthony has a wealth of baseball experience as well as teaching young kids in both individual and group settings. Additionally, especially if you’re an Immersion Student, you can have fun speaking with Coach Santiago in Spanish as well!

Nate VanPutten — Cornerstone University

Coach VanPutten played at Cornerstone University and has coached various levels of High School baseball over the past 12 years. He is also a dad of a little leaguer and coaches his son’s 10U baseball team. He has an incredible method of communicating and teaching the game of baseball to kids, his passion for the sport is outstanding. Nate is a member of the Michigan High School Baseball Coaches Association.

Kurt DeHorn – Hope College

Former Hope College Baseball Player. Coach DeHorn was a standout pitcher for the Dutchman and was on two MIAA conference championship teams. Coach DeHorn is from a family line of solid coaches and has a tremendous passion for working with kids. He does an excellent job of communicating, teaching, and helping kids succeed while having fun!

Devin Schaefers – Hope College

Former player and current Head Assistant Baseball Coach for Hope College, coach Schaefers is a slick fielding infielder who specializes in teaching hitting. Devin has received several MIAA awards and accolades in his career, including 1st Team MIAA All-Conference member. Devin has a ton of experience working with youth players and is great at relating with kids! .

Dann Howitt — Mariners, White Sox, and A’s

former accomplished Major League Baseball. From 1989 to 1995, he played with the Oakland A’s, Seattle Mariners, and Chicago White Sox. He was teammates with Mark McGwire, Jose Canseco with the A’s. With Seattle, he was a fairly regular leftfielder playing side by side with Ken Griffey JR and Jay Buhner. He also played college baseball for Michigan State and Cal State Fullerton. A piece of MLB trivia history belongs to him. Dann was the last player to get a hit off Nolan Ryan (a Grand Slam) in the Seattle King Dome.

Hayden Modaff — Muskegon CC

Aquinas College and Muskegon CC player, Hayden set several school records such as career home runs and single season and career records for RBI’s just to name a few. We are fortunate to have coach Modaff with us as he now takes his talents to DII Aquinas College in 2017. Coach Modaff also coaches travel baseball in the summer and enjoys teaching youth baseball players how to be the best they can be.
