ZEELAND, MI – Some changes are on the way in the local baseball and softball training market as Baseball Concepts LLC announced Friday that it has been sold. Since 2009 Baseball Concepts has been a staple in the area for baseball/softball camps and training. “We’ve been blessed to help so many kids and coaches in a sport that we’ve been so very passionate about”, said founder Jeff VanHuis. “New ownership will provide an exciting chapter of growth and continued to service to baseball and softball players and coaches in the years to come”.

Devin Schaefers of Lake Forest, CA purchased the company and is a 2015 graduate of Hope College holding a BA Degree in Business Management. He spent four seasons playing baseball and earned 1st team All-Conference MIAA honors in 2014. Schaefers now lives locally and currently serves on Coach Stu Fritz’s Hope College Baseball coaching staff. “It’s a dream opportunity to pursue my passion for the game of baseball and fitness in an incredible area like Holland/Zeeland”, said Schaefers. “I fell in love with the game of baseball at a very young age and have been a true student ever since”.

Schaefers grew up playing on one of the top high school teams in the country, El Toro High School (California). He played with current MLB players Nolan Arenado (Colorado Rockies), Matt Chapman (Oakland A’s), Austin Romine (New York Yankees) as well as dozens of minor leaguers. Experiences like this will provide Baseball Concepts students with a wealth of information and quality training. Baseball Concepts prides itself on high level customer service and seeking excellence in every operational aspect. “Devin has fantastic energy, strong connections in the area and a work ethic that will ensure our client base will be well-served”, said VanHuis. Schaefers’ goal is for players and parents to see positive results in both character and confidence levels though quality skill development. He is already adding to the solid team of instructors that will include college coaches and players as well former minor and major league players, many of whom live right here in the Holland area.

Specific details of the acquisition have not been disclosed, but it is clear the business will remain in its two Zeeland locations at 8516 Homestead Drive and at SportsQuest. Quality baseball and softball training will remain available in Zeeland and Holland. “Our goal is to provide cutting edge instruction producing a hotbed of talent for local high schools and colleges all while continuing to build the warm and encouraging environment for players at all ability levels”, added Schaefers. Baseball Concepts will offer strength and flexibility programs as well as potentially offering daytime fitness classes.

Former Zeeland West High School baseball coach Jeff VanHuis started the business in 2009 that now offers (20) specialized baseball/softball camps at venues in Traverse City, Rockford, Grand Rapids, and Zeeland. The recent addition of private training lessons has resulted in an increasing amount of growth and opportunity for kids and parents in Holland/Zeeland. “We are very grateful for the people over the years who have been instrumental in helping us succeed”, added VanHuis. “Players and parents should expect the same quality service and results for years to come.”
